Our mystery shoppers for the spa, hair and beauty industries are great at picking up trends. This year they have reported back to say that most businesses need to make more of their gift voucher sales at check out.
Gift vouchers are an amazing way to generate more revenue for your salon or spa and to promote your business, but more often than not our mystery shoppers are not offered any.
It takes very little time to sell a voucher and business owners can support their staff by having vouchers readily available so that they can be processed easily at the till.
Vouchers are a great marketing tool. Just think, your logo is going to be visible in someone’s home over the Christmas and the New Year period. A time when people are looking at New Year's resolutions and self-improvement. Think about the additional exposure that a gift voucher gives your brand and services. A voucher is likely to be given as a present to a potential new client, helping you to expand your client base.
Gift voucher business can keep staff busy over the slower months of January and February and the increased footfall over these quieter months can give staff the opportunity to upsell from the gifted treatment with retail products and additional treatments.
All it takes is to ask the question, “would you like a gift card for friends or family?”
Perhaps giving some suggestions on what gift vouchers can be spent on can be helpful to inspire clients into purchasing - some ‘me-time’ for friends, ‘post-Christmas relax’ for exhausted Mums, grooming treatments for ‘new year, new me’ colleagues and work friends, getting daughters and sons started on a new year skincare regime, an introduction to massage for the relative who has everything. Get creative with your ideas.
Gift vouchers are a perfect gift, so check that staff are offering them and that they are prominently displayed on your reception desk and in around the business. Make it easy for all staff to recommend and for clients to purchase.
Think about offering clients an incentive for voucher purchases, perhaps a small thank you gift or a small voucher for themselves to redeem in the New Year.
Incentivise staff by giving them a gift or treat for the person who sells the most in quantity or the biggest in value.
However you do it, make sure this Christmas is the festive period that you look back on next year knowing that you made the most of your voucher sales.
