It was difficult to hone it down to only three! After all, we have been carrying out mystery shopping in the beauty industry for a fair few years now and we see at close hand how many great things there are to be had from a professional mystery shop. However, I have managed to reduce it to my top three ‘best things about a professional mystery shop for beauty business owners’
Firstly, mystery shopping is time-saving. Life is busy and with the best will in the world, it is difficult to keep on top of everything at the speed that we feel we should in our businesses. We all need help! There are often things that you don’t get around to fully analysing.
A professional mystery shop in your beauty, hair, aesthetics or spa business can let you see quickly what is going well and what may need attention or development, saving you time and effort.
To have a professional mystery shopping company visit your business - who can provide fast and relevant insights into your business - can be a good, helpful shortcut to success saving you time and money.
Professional mystery shopping is impartial.
However, there are lots of businesses who use friends, family or colleagues to carry out mystery shops. Although this is fine, and it will give you some indication about what is happening in your business, it can never be totally impartial because to be able to utilise these mystery shoppers you will know them or know of them and they will know something about you or your business. They will most likely already have preconceived ideas about your business and this takes away from the impartiality of the process, which is one of the most valuable aspects of mystery shopping.
Hidden Beauty allocates mystery shoppers who will have an impartial and objective view of what they experience on their assignment.
One recent customer said, “I don’t think I could stand having someone come in to see what is happening in my business in case they find something I don’t like!”
But isn’t it better to know and to be able to do something about it rather than behaving like an ostrich? Most of our customers are relieved that rarely do our shoppers find anything terrible happening, rather their feedback gives rise to tweaking and improving good areas to become fabulous!
Mystery shopping is enlightening. We can be so absorbed in our business that sometimes it is difficult to see the wood from the trees. A mystery shopping report can be like shining a torch into a dimly lit corner of your salon or spa. There may be unsung heroes in your business that are not getting the recognition they deserve or perhaps great treatments that are not being promoted well enough from within the salon, both of which could be increasing your revenue.
Whatever our mystery shoppers find, the feedback is always constructive and positive. We are are here to help you - not criticise you.
An excerpt from a recent mystery shop highlighted this “I really liked the positive way in which the mystery shopper gave feedback on what was a very delicate matter. It was constructive and I was able to use the feedback in a training session to improve staff personal presentation”
When was the last time you had a mystery shop and what did it reveal? Let us know at email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
